Looking at an article by Roger Caffin on lightweight backpacks at Backpacking Lightweight I saw athe British company Lightwave is making split hipbelts (lateral split where belt goes around the iliac crest area). Caffin and his wife seemed to feel this was moe conforming and comfortable. It certainly lookis like a good idea.

In a similar vein Osprey has some light packs that are not split but their hipbelts have two side tensioning straps - like one of the Lightwave belts.
Also Osprey's hipbelts are very "stretchy" and conforming.
This dual strap design permits tilting the hipbelt and for women, whose pelvis is generally more tilted forward than men's, I think it's a good idea.

I'm a guy but my REI Cruise UL 60 pack's belt has never been as confortable as I liked so I'm going to split my belt and use 2 side tensioner straps to see if it feels better. Fortunately I have a good shoe repair shop nearby who did excellent work when modifying a winter skiing pack for me.

Check out Lightwave's website to see their innovative hipbelts. Hope this
helps you gals.

OOPS!

The website is just "Backpacking Light", not the other one (Lightweight)
