This recipe is from...

Excalibur Customer Recipes (http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/recipe.php?category_id=8)

4 cups pitted dates
4 cups pecans
6 tablespoons carob powder
2 teaspoons vanilla

Blend dates and pecans in food processor until finely chopped. Next add carob powder and vanilla. Process until fully combined. Roll mixture into one inch balls. Refrigerate. Yields 3 dozen

Would they work with two squares of real chocolate instead of the
Carob Powder ? If so , would added sugar be required ?

Carob powder isn't sweet so I would think that dutch process cocoa powder would make a better sub than real chocolate. But if you could grate the chocolate fine you might get away with it.
