I have begun my research into a new tent. After deciding on what is most important to me, I came across the Sierra Designs Lightning XT 1 and the Vapor Light 1. I know that Sierra Designs makes good products, but I have been unable to find much information on these two tents. Have any of you guys or gals had any experience with either of these. For reference I am 5'10'' and 150 lbs. so i can fit in pretty much any tent. Any input would be appreciated and thanks in advance!

Here is the Lightning at campmor. It has the specs and a cutomer review.

I cannot find a 1 man vapor tent but they still seem to sell footprints for them. There is a 1 man lightyear maybe it was renamed.

They seem like nice tent for a decent price.

A bit heavy at 3 pounds 12 ounces for a solo tent, but the Sierra Designs Zolo 1 tent is huge for a 1 person. Nice design, 8'x3' footprint, 3'4" height, and SD quality. Nice colors too!

The Tarptent company makes fully enclosed "tents" as do other companies that make light weight shelters.

Is that meant to be funny ?

I never understood that either. Not only is the splash of gawdy color kind of taking away someone elses enjoyment as they look around the wilderness, but the idea of being stuck in a bright orange, 1 man, fabric coffin while hearing the constant sound of rain for 6 hours seems like a new form of torture the CIA thought up:D

Ever wondered where the expressions "feeling blue" or singing the blues come from ?
Blue is a cold colour associated with sadness and depression.
Red and orange are at the opposite end of the spectrum.
Incidentally grey is a neutral colour.

Franco, I could care less what some study says. I would prefer blue over ridiculously loud, ugly orange. Think for yourself a bit. What really makes you feeling "blue"? Is it really the color blue? Really? Is orange making you really happy? If so, good for you! It's not funny, it's true! I mean really, what are those orange tents suppost to be saying "warning, warning, there is a camper in the area, proceed with caution. Warning warning) LOL Yea, thats funny, and again....true!

whatever makes you happy, but I can assure you that there is a science behind the choice of colours.
For some reason some think that everybody uses a shelter exactly the way they do, however that is far from truth or reality...
Orange and red tents are that colour for safety. In a whiteout you could go out for a pee and loose sight of your blue/green tent within a few feet.
Just a few days before this shot was taken (last week)

the local ranger who has patrolled that area for 8 months , lost sight of his mate right there , both where on a ski doo, less that 3 meters (9 feet) away from each other.
He ended up going around for almost 3 hours before he found his way back...

Mountaineering tents in particular have a yellow inner also particularly to create an up lifting environment for climber stuck inside in bad weather.
Your opinion may differ but people that actually use tents in that environment will disagree with you...

Tarptent kicks butt, lightweight, easy to pitch, roomy, hard to beat. Pretty much done with shelter "living", tenting for Del Q!

Franco, I re-read this entire thread, and didn't see anyone mention anything about expatiation/mountaineering tents. WhoDey, who started this thread, is obviously talking about 3 season tents, re-read his original post and tell me what gave you a hint of anything different.
You really don't have much of a choice with mountaineering tents. I can't think of one that isn't orange, red or yellow.
I have/had tents of many colors, but can't remembering blue or green or whatnot getting me sad and depressed. Lets just say it's about the color that appeals to an individual, like I like to think we all are, individuals with their own tastes, likes and desires.
Now back to our regular scheduled topic....
