Those with some knowledge of thru-hiking may be able to help us out with a potential plan change for our 2011 thru. We have our daughters wedding in mid May to attend, and we are leaving Springer Nortbound in Mid April. The wedding is near Harpers Ferry, so our idea is this:

Make it to the Smokies or even a bit North before the wedding. Take a few days off for the wedding, then resume the hike in Mid May from Harpers Ferry to Kathadin. Haven't planned out enough to see when we might get there, but at that point come back to Harpers and finish Southbound back to the Smokies.

Advantages? Disadvantages? Other Thoughts???

thanks bunches!:banana:banana:banana

Sounds like a great plan. You won't have to hurry to get to katahdin and HF south in the fall is fantastic. Plus you will have the trail more to yourself and the weather should -overall- work in your favor. Enjoy:)

Sounds good to me. It takes about 4-6 weeks to get to Damascus, depending on your speed. Smokies are reached in 2 weeks, so you may be by Erwin or even farther north. Have fun!
