Grizzly and Ryder...stole from Chets hostel as well as from hiker Ragin Cajun, last seen in the Lincoln/Kinsman area.

Chet says they lifted from at least two hikers.
Ragin is here trying to resupply his stolen gear.

I havent seen them so I cant give a physical desciption, Chet asked me to post since he has no internet access.

Just a heads up.

Trail theivery is repugnant all on its' own. . . stealing from Chet? . . That's beyond description. . . Lion King, if you know what direction they were going, that would help warn others (hikers and hostels) that they are approaching. . . and maybe certain trail folk could pay them an unsuspected visit. . . ;)

Pretty much in my backyard. DOn't know when this happened, but if they're SOBO a report to Hanover, NH and Norwich, VT police might prove the best opportunity for them to be found as they'll have the road walk through Hanover and will likely stop for a while for supplies.

Ragin Cajun thought they were headed South as well, but we havent seen them here...sort of expecting them.
Hoping they will come by.

Chet could give a descirption, I know what to look for but a Hiker looks like a hiker looks likea homeless person here. so...

Ragin Cajun said he thinks they grab stuff and sell it at the Rainbow gathering he was going to post on this thread with descriptions, maybe he will soon.

The Rainbow Gathering is a big hippy thing. While I've met many good hippies, I've met at least as many that are imposters. Just because you have dreadlocks and homemade clothing doesn't mean you're a peaceful fun-loving hippy. Or even a nice person for that matter. Does that make sense?

warraghiyagey
10-04-2010, 12:30
Does that make sense?
Kind of. . . but the broad generalization is just that. . . I could say it's not a hippy thing and show with many short hair shirt and tie examples why that is, but would it make a difference. . . ?
The subject is stealing. . . hippies were never a part of the story til you introduced it as such. . . does that make sense?

Correct, that is precisely what I was saying. The assuption, perhaps wrongly on my part, was that if they were stealing things to sell at a rainbow gathering then they were hippy impostors. But, I bet they still consider themselves hippies because they listen to the Dead.

I'm at the Hostel in the Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction tonight and there's no other hikers here. I'll be at Thistle Hill Lean to tomorrow, so I'll keep a look out. Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): Is it possible the 2 defendants... went into the Sac-O-Suds, picked 22 specific items off of the shelf, had the clerk take the money, make change, then leave. Then 2 different men, drive up...
[Seeing Mr. Tipton shake his head no]
Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): Don't shake your head I'm not finished yet. Wait until you hear the whole thing you can understand what it is that I'm axin'. Then, two different men drive up in a similar looking car, go into the store, shoot the clerk, rob him, then leave?
Mr. Tipton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/): No. They didn't have enough time.
Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): Why not? How long was they in the store for?
Mr. Tipton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/): 5 minutes.
Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): 5 minutes? How do you know? Did you look at your watch?
Mr. Tipton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/): No.
Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): Oh, oh, oh, you tesitfied earlier that you saw the boys go into the store, and you had just begun to cook your breakfast and you were just getting ready to eat when you heard the shot.
Mr. Tipton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/): That's right.
Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): So obviously it takes you 5 minutes to cook your breakfast.
Mr. Tipton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/): That's right.
Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): That's right, so you knew that. You remember what you had?
Mr. Tipton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/): Eggs and grits.
Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): Eggs and grits. I like grits, too. How do you cook your grits? Do you like them regular, creamy or al dente?
Mr. Tipton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/): Just regular I guess.
Vinny Gambini (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000582/): Regular. Instant grits?
Mr. Tipton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/): No self respectin' Southerner uses instant grits. I take pride in my grits.

Every time I read one of these types of threads I'm reminded of the time when Harry the Indian (a true trail legend) was accused of stealing something from a married couples pack. They were positive Harry had stolen the item. No doubts. When they reached Damascus they called the police and Harry and his girlfriend (wife?) and their packs were searched in front of everyone in The Place. Stolen item not found. And then - oops - the item was found deep in the owners pack. Misplaced. Not stolen.

If anyone sees Ragin’ Cajun, please have him report details of items stolen from him to Lincoln PD (603 745-9000). Otherwise it is difficult to follow-up even if we encounter Grizzly and Ryder. Chet thinks Ragin’ Cajun was south bound also, having stated that he was “walking home”.

Thanks for posting for me Captain Stash, we are approved now to post our own messages.

We have info that they left the Lincoln/Rt 112/Kinsman area on Oct 1st or 2nd. Some are estimating 3-6 days to get to Hanover depending on their skill and effort.

Most important, if anyone sees Ragin Cajun, have him report specifics of what was stolen from him. Chet told me that he only lost an old sleeping pad, which he is not going to report. Chet says Ragin Cajun lost a digital camera and a sleeping bag, but did not report it to the police. You all come through here with a bag and a camera, but any detailed specifics on either will give us something to work with IF we encounter them.

Thanks to you all for your help.

My guess is that these two probably hitched a ride out of the Lincoln area since they’ve not been seen on the trail lately, but.., you never know:-.., keep a sharp eye. It's nice to see the hiking community and law enforcement involved in this, but 'we', "the trail community", must remember that with any reported incidents such as this to gather 'all of the facts first' and 'then' put that information through the proper channels. For the record, I'm not saying these two are innocent, only that we ‘must’ verify info before we put it out there. If possible, I prefer to hear it directly from those involved as too much can be ‘lost or added’ through secondhand communication.
