I am very sorry to have to inform all of The General's Hiking friends that Mark passed away recently after a short illness.

can you please verify that you are not speaking of bilage rat whos real trail name, not his old trail name , is the general?
I'm talking about Mark Thompson from North Yorkshire, England

This sounds like the General that worked with various "security" companies. Had the pleasure of feeding him at the base of Little Bigelow here in Maine on his thru. He was quite a character.

Very sad! I had the pleasure of hiking with him, he was funny, always ready to help a hiker out and could make you smile and feel better - without saying a word. He will be missed by many here and those who had the pleasure of meeting him in town stops along the way.
