What else can you do with Tyvek other then making a ground cover?

Tarps and occasionally full tents aren't too uncommon. Some make clothing and etc. as well. There was a guy called "tyvek" a few years back who hiked the trail barefoot for something to do with raising awareness of veteran's issues, and most of his gear was, as his trail name might imply, made of tyvek.

this guy makes tarps http://www.terrarosagear.com/tarpshelters.htm but im sure he uses Type 1443R Tyvek, not house wrap

On thursday I was hiking in the wilderness and a guy was using a sheet of Tyvek as a tarp as he was "hanging" behind Hurd brook shelter.

the nice thing is its cheap (especially if you in construction) you can make all sorts of things to try out ideas. stuff sacks, rain skirt, tarp, tent, mist mittens, weather shild under hammock, cover for seat pad, gaiters, and sled ;) my son sits on pieces and slides down snow hills.:banana

It makes really nice curtains for a tent!

Like KK was referreing to, Tyvek comes in several different versions/wts.with slightly different characteristics depending on intended use.

Has anyone used tyvek in their hammock for wind and cold protection?

Have you seen tyvek before? No, it does not replace a pad unless you fill it with insulation and use it as an underquilt.

I myself have found tyvek to be useful on short hikes but not long ones. I remember useing it years ago durrning a 1600 hike on the AT. From what I remember are the crease where I folded it leaked through after a time and I woke up with wet tent the next morrning. Maybe you can roll it up to extend the life of it but, I wouldn't count on it. I have stayed away from useing tyvek as a ground cloth since then. Oh, by the way that was house wrap that I used.

a weather shield helps with wind and rain. if you are at 65 degrees you may not need pad
