Hiawassee, Ga No rooms this weekend

Just a though I let you all know that there is some kind of
Fair going on in Hiawassee, Ga this weekend 10-15.

I called the Hiawassee Inn and they are booked.
I may be able to “camp” in the grassy area in front
of the hotel, the staff is checking on that.



There does not seem to be any rooms for miles.

My back up plan will be to stay at the Budget Inn in Franklin &
drive down to Hiawassee early to met up with my shuttle.

Its OktoberFest time in Helen. Probably why the area is booked up.

Have you tried anything in Hayesville NC. Its just over the state line from Hiawassee. Other than that, there is Blairsville and Cleveland that are direct shots to Neels Gap. And Clayton is just past Dicks Creek Gap.

I forgot about that. When I was there several days ago, everybody in Hiawassee was talking about the big event that was coming in October. I guess that's this weekend. You could also camp at the Standing Indian campground.

You could even hike straight from there to Deep Gap NC (FS71) and catch the AT. Seems to me (can't remember) though, that this would drop you on the AT about in themiddle of your intended route, so probably won't work...
