If you are coming in from Ocala on 40 stop at the Ocklawaha visitors center 3199 NE CR 315. Silver Springs, Florida 34488. You can buy maps and get camping information. Probably the easy thing to do is go to the campground at Juniper Springs on 40. You can hike north or south from there and setup camp and then walk back out the following day. Or you can camp at Juniper Springs and do some day hiking. Mosquitos and tics are still about but they were not real bad last week.

If she is not thrilled by walking, try the Juniper springs canoe run. Very remote, gators for sure, and many nice picnic spots. get a canoe reservation it you are interested. No swimming at night in the spring pool. Used to see a big gator in there after dark lying on the bottom.

thanks for the help so far. she is definitely into backpacking, so canoeing is probably not an option. I will try the visitors center if they are open when we arrive on tue... not sure if they will be.
