Was thinking of getting away for a couple of days this week and try to hike the prettiest section of trail in Ga as far as leaf peeping goes...any opinions on the best stretch? I've always enjoyed going up and over Blood from the south side and coming back on the Freeman trail...nice leafage on this section.

take the Richard Russell parkway and stop at all of the turnouts. then if you want to hike a bit park at Tesnatee or Hog Pen and climb up to the ridge and take the connector that leads to Whitley Gap shelter. Several good views back towards Cowrock and the valley in between. Some excellent dry campsites along that ridge as well.

I was up doing trail maintenance just south of Unicoi Gap this past week. I did not think the color was very good. I've heard it will not be a real good year for color in the North Georgia mountains.

I'm with Speer...I hiked from Woody to Neels and thought the color was less than stellar. This weekend might have been a better choice.

But 2 days before I was up hiking in the Cohutta's and the color was beautiful.
