If you are looking for *real* adventure in MN... the Kekekabic Trail, hmmm, how to describe it? The parts that have been recently maintained are easy to follow. The parts that need to be maintained, you're on your own. The best, virtually only, markers - are the saw cut blowdown. When you stop seeing saw cuts you need to start looking around. The Border Route is much more of a "trail". Although the undergrowth grows in you can still tell where the trail is... mostly. I had difficulty in one of the old burned areas, and the last day the trail dumped me in a clear cut and disappeared... only the second time I've had to shoot a compass bearing on "marked" trail. I wouldn't want to recommend either trail unless you're comfortable with route finding and map and compass.
The Superior Hiking Trail rivals and probably surpasses the AT in the amount of trail work per mile. VERY nice trail!
