I have a set of cheapie Walmart poles and just use one of them (and good thing since the second decided to self-destruct). I'm thinking about getting something nicer that will last for a thru, but it looks like Leki and others are sold in pairs only. Does anyone know of a place I can buy individual poles?

I buy ski poles at thrift stores, I have several sets. Just cut em off to fit me, most cost only a couple of bucks!!!

Leki used to sell certain styles in singles, although I din't think they were the "Makalu" style. You might check outdoor stores when they are having clearance sales or places(especially on the AT) that carry Leki's Demo poles.

Oops, I also forgot to mention that it needs to be telescoping because I also use a tarp. The thrift store ski pole idea would be perfect otherwise.

EMS sells single poles as well as some nice walking stick style poles.

REI has a Komperdell made single with camera mount. I like mine but can't speak to longevity. They also have a camera monood that is similar, that might make a good pole.

I got one of those after I broke my Leki staff on an icy down slope. Its holding up well. Though I mostly grab it the usual way, being able to palm the round knob is good from time to time. No jokes, please.

Try your local Target store seen them there in singles and pairs.... should be a bit cheaper now as the summer season is gone
