View Full Version : MSR FURY 4 Season Tent / Info anyone?

I'm looking at purchasing a light weight 4 season tent. I did a search here and the web on this particular tent, but would still like to see if anyone has actually owned or used this tent. I read that it's been upgraded since a MSR buyout of Moss, so I'm just looking for info on the new MSR version.

I would also like any suggestions on other (7 lbs or under) 4 season tents.

I don't know anything about that tent, but as for suggestions...

Tarptent Scarp 1 has been around for a while, but I don't think it'd be very good for shedding snow.

Mountainfitter is making a 4 season cuben fiber shelter. I think it'll be floorless. He said he wanted to add provisions for a wood burning stove as an option.

Oware makes a few pyramids that should work too.

Moss Tents (bought out by REI and reinvented as MSR) introduced this tent in 1986, I believe, when I worked at the Reading, Ma. REI. It appears to be unchanged, with the exception of lighter fabrics, a bright colored rainfly, and, possibly, lighter poles. It was a bombproof tent back then. Many customers were highly satisfied with the design. It's not ultralight by any means, but it will take a huge snow load.

You may want to take a look at Hilleberg Tents:http://estore.websitepros.com/1764795/Categories.bok?category=Tents
They are not cheap but if you plan to do serious winter camping, You want a tent you can truly rely on. Hilleberg has a few 4 season tents in the 7 pound range or less.
I was looking at the Staika and the Kaitum Series. I am leaning towards the Staika if I get into winter camping. If you are not planning on a lot of winter camping, Then you could probably get by with a 3 season shelter.
