Does anyone know of any annual events or gatherings that through hikers can try to plan to attend or avoid? I know it is recommended to avoid Georgia during spring break, but I was thinking more along the lines of Labor Day celebrations, Whiteblaze get togethers, lawnmower poker runs, things like that. If yes, did you attend and did you find it enjoyable?

There is a RUCK in Pennsylvania, and one in the south, both in January. Might be more info at www.ALDHA.com I went to a Ruck before my thru-hike and it was a great way to gain knowledge and meet people.

There is always Traildays in May, a huge gathering of past, future and present thru-hikers in Damascus, VA.

The Gathering is every October alternating between Hanover NH and Athens WV.

Lastly there is the Whiteblaze Gathering. Last september was the annual one in Maine and it was a great time. I'm sure there are plans for another one in the fall, maybe at a different location, maybe the same.

There are often things posted here about hikers getting together to hike, or just hang out. Examples are the Trashgiving Feast and Billville Winter Warmer. Also sometimes people post to go help out with a hiker feed/event. Keep your eyes peeled here.
