I will be doing several long section hike this year starting in March.
My wife will not be going with me. We both enjoy wine.
Are there any Winerys near the trail so she can meet me on zero days?

There are several near Dahalonega (near Springer) that give tours. I'm sure you can find them with a google search. I haven't been to any of them.

There are a number in Lehigh Valley (http://www.lehighvalleywinetrail.com/)(Allentown.Bethlehem Area) and in Finesville NJ Along the Musconetcong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finesville), about an hour south of the trailon the Delaware River. This secton of NJ is actually pretty nice - I frive through it 2x a day on my commute and really like it. Winding backroads, small river towns and such

Yes they are in PA but after visiting a few, don't waste your time - The good ones are not near the trail and I am not a wine snob.

but I did work at the Chadds Ford Winery for several Christmas Seasons......

You could also consider section hiking a different white blazed trail (http://www.fltconference.org/trails/) much closer to a recognized wine region (http://www.fingerlakeswinecountry.com/) although you probably would want to wait until sometime after March to go there. :D

Mountain Lake between Pearisburg and Blacksburg, Va, while not being a winery would be a cool place to meet a non hiking spouse. I think shuttle service is free for guests.

Near Shenandoah NP, Prince Michel (http://www.princemichel.com/) winery is down the east slope on Rt. 29 north of Rt. 33 (from Swift Run Gap) and south of Rt. 211 (from Thornton Gap). I like their wines - they have a nice tasting room. I have one of their glasses in my local winery glass collection.

Just go to the interactive map (http://www.pennsylvaniawine.com/Wineries.aspx) at the link I posted earlier.

Other than Pennsylvania's wineries, the only places wine may be purchased in Pennsylvania are its Wine and Spirits stores and establishments granted a liquor license by Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to sell it for immediate consumption. Wine and spirits are not sold at most grocery stores although the concept is being trialed at select locations with in-store cafes.

dry counties don't always equate with no ETOH production.. If I'm not mistaken the J.D. distillery is in a dry county. I think there are wineries near Dahlonega, Helen, and Blairsville.

I distinctly remember Blairsville as being in one of the dry counties - at least it was in 2004 when I section hiked all of Georgia with my thru-hiking buddy. But as you say, that doesn't mean there's no vineyards. In fact, Cedar Creek Vineyard (http://cedarcreekvineyards.net/) is located in Pulaski County, KY, a dry county.

Virginia is the best winery state. It has 92+ winery's registered in the VA guide book. Send for it, it divides the state into regions, many not to far from the AT and Skyline DR in Shenandoah NP. Starting south of Rockfish Gap in Nelson County with Wintergreen and up to Afton Mtn there are several. Monticello and Kluge in C' ville are some of the best. Along US 29 from C'ville north you'll find a bunch more off in the countryside after a short drive. By the time you're finished in that area you'll be in Furlough's region. Continue on north into Loudoun Co. VA and you'll find another cluster. Good wines and mostly free tasting rooms. Here is the link if it is not already up.

Word of caution. Many wineries are in remote rural counties with an abundance of law enforcement officers. It's not an overbearing presence, but it is hard to drive far down a county road with out encountering various representatives of the local constabulary. An afternoon of tasting can put you at or over the limit. VA has mandatory jail time for some offenses.

Although not part of the OP - In this same area there are some really good Apple/Peach/Berry Orchards. Depending on the time of year you could do a full day trip circuit hitting both wineries and orchards. My 2 favorite orchards are in Markham Va, Stirbling and Hartland Orchards.

Best as proximal to the AT, GA to ME. Alternatively, California and some NY state for the US. My personal favorite is Germany, Rhine river valley, for whites and most of Italy for the reds. I've come a long way since Boone's Farm Apple for 69 cents at the base exchange in the 60's.
