Entrance to abandoned Atlas F missile site?

Contacted the Park regarding this. Their only comment was that if it is one, they (gov) hid it really well (um, they did kind of hide them intentionally in many cases for obvious reasons). There definitely are old decommissioned Atlas F silos / sites in NY parks though (in Adirondack Park I have actually seen them) and they look somewhat similar to what is in the drawing.

For a 65,000 acre park, the authorities could certainly release more information to give people familiar with the area some more to go on. Did Rebecca say they were hiking in the Red House Area or the Quaker Run Area? Where did they park their car? Where did she come out when she was looking for help .. the Fire Tower, one of the campsites, one of the roads, along one of the lakes?

I'm sorry, I can neither confirm nor deny the presences of nuclear weapons onboard...:D

News accounts describe him using the title Reverend; retired 10 yrs ago as pastor of a Methodist church; still presides over weekly Bible classes at the church.

If you'll read the comments of the OP's article you'll see they're all going absolutly batshlt over this. I don't know maybe this is normal for this website, but it seems a little out of the ordinary for a missing hiker after less than 24 hours.

No shyte, their comments are raising eyebrows. Some of the uproar is about the daughter’s forgetfulness; some is because law enforcement is playing it close to the vest.

Father 92, daughter 72. Got lost, spent the night in the woods, 26 degrees. When the dau emerged, she was hypothermic & dehydrated and “having a hard time remembering.” Sounds reasonable to me. So far.

But I defer to Matthewski, he's way more interesting. :datz

The Starting point is the summits around the park, it is not the foundation of the zoo locations.

It makes you really wonder, they didn't bring enough water, there's streams all over the place. They didn't get a fire going in the night.... They didn't take the essential ten one can guess. And it took four hours to walk out? No SKILLS?

I hate stories like this... Where did they leave the car ...Where did she finish up? The Journalists are to blame!

I spoke with one of the search and rescue people today. There is no foul play suspected and still no sign of the man.

I spent a lot of time hiking around Allegany State Park and Allegheny National Forest over the years, when I lived closer and I have a really hard time believing that a 72YO woman would take her 92YO father OT. This area is pretty rugged and with all the undulating hills, one can easily become disoriented. One moment you are on a trail and then suddenly you are on a herd path and then out in the middle of nowhere.

I'm constantly amazed at how unprepared people are when they go into the woods. I've seen women in high heels, people with no water, no extra clothing, etc. Some people act like they are walking in their subdivision rather than in the woods!

As of the last read - they have stopped looking due to weather -

She started with Hamilton on the SweetWater Trail and lost direction at sunset.

How do you split up that easily with no gear, and with two older probably pretty slow hikers?

Sad. I hope they find him AOK, but it sure doesn't look good....

The real truth behind looking for a lost hiker at this time of the year....
