Jennifer Davis has just put out a new AT book called Becoming Odyssa.
For those of you that dont know her, she has been writing for Blue Ridge Outdoors mag and wrote a really great article on Warren Doyle this past year. She is a great writer and her book should be great!!!

Just saw this write up (http://www.nationalparkstraveler.com/review/2010/becoming-odyssa-epic-adventures-appalachian-trail7335) about her book.

Her AT hike of 57 days, 8 hours and 35 minutes (http://www.blueridgenow.com/article/20080819/NEWS/125254?p=1&tc=pg) was amazing.

Jennifer, who's a cool cat and an extraordinary speaker, will be at the Southern Ruck doing a presentation on several trails in Europe she hiked this year. Of course, I imagine she'll also have a few copies of her book on hand.

I didn't realize she was writing a book. I will be interested in seeing how well the book sells.

Give us the skinny after you had a chance to read it Sonic. Always like to hear feedback on AT books.

If reviews are any indication, extremely well.

I hope it does do well, I am just skeptical at how big the market is for trail books. Now, if she can get on Oprah, she'll have it made.

I'm about halfway through with the book and love it! I have laughed, and teared up from time to time. She really does write well and her emotions come through. It is a shame that she didn't write about the fun we had at NOC, though.... Guess she couldn't include everything, lol.

Maybe has a chance of the record she wants this year is accomplished.
After all, Oprah went "camping" in Yosemite. :)

I guess it's all relative. While it probably won't be as successful a seller as "A Walk in the Woods", it's most likely a better read.

I read Jen's book over the weekend. It is the most honest, introspective, and spiritual AT book I've read.

Lots of hikers prepare, physically, for their AT thru-hikes. But it is often said that a thru-hike is 10% physical and 90% mental. What can prospective hikers do to prepare themselves, mentally? Read Becoming Odyssa!

Congratulations, Jennifer. Well done!

It's sitting on my "to read" stack, but Footpath My Ass (http://www.amazon.com/Footpath-Ass-Terry-Croteau-Bluebird/dp/1441565345) is next.

I ordered that, yesterday. I hope it arrives in time for the weekend.

Just finished reading Becoming Odyssa. It's a great book.

I guess what struck me about the book was how Jennifer Pharr Davis learned and adapted along the way on her hike. She didn't start out with a lot of information about the trail, didn't have the best gear, and didn't really understand what kind of food to bring along or to buy.

She learned, often the hard way, what worked for her, and grew stronger and more confident during the hike. It's pretty clear that she is an outstanding athlete (her record for the fastest women's through hike shows this), but her first through hike was at a slower pace and generally unsupported.

I was impressed by her determination, and inspired by the story.

I just finished reading this book and loved it. Not only is she a great athlete, but also a pretty good author. For those of you who care, it's also available now in e-book form.

Jennifer Davis has just put out a new AT book called Becoming Odyssa.

Got it for Christmas, read it in a day and a half, and it immediately went near the top of my list of AT books that I recommend.

Rain:sunMan

P.S. I got 3 AT books for Christmas, well actually I got 4 but 2 were duplicates, so now a replacement is in the mail to me as I type this: "Footpath my ass!" Looking forward to reading it shortly! Another AT book by a woman.

Definitely a niche market, but I devour trail books. I am finishing up my second one, "300 Zeros," since January 1.

Half-way through it and loving it. Really makes me want to do it, especially because she didn't have the best gear or knowledge, but was smart enough to learn as she went.

It is also well written. I have put down some other AT books because they look my interest, but this one makes me want to keep reading it. If anyone is in contact with her, let her know how much people are enjoying her book.
