Hey folks, I've just recently become a big fan of the show "Criminal Minds" and I noticed that the description of tonight's new episode (9pm EST, on CBS) says that it's about catching someone killing children on the Appalachian Trail.

I know, I know, a story about a serial killer is not the best association for the trail... but that's what the whole series is about. The point of the show is really that this stuff can happen anywhere, but you can't let it make you live in fear. I'm definitely planning to watch. :banana

That whole thing about trailing snickers on snare wire on the AT has merit? Who knew!

Thus leaving a trace, which thankfully means there won't be a "Without a Trace " sequel.

But on another note, why is it all the backwoods murderers always look like LW?

Oh great! I just spent a year convincing my wife the AT is safe to do a thru solo! Now she is watching that stupid thing on CBS.

Now that I think of it, watching CBS solo is more dangerous than hiking the AT solo.

I hope they say Baltimore Jack is the unsub. He fits the description!

Glad FORREST GUMP is on instead, on the TNT channel. Only seen it 1268 times, but it sure gives a different kind of jolt.

Great, the worst Criminal Minds episode ever gets a part 2... and, it's quite obvious the writers didn't consult a single hiker while writing the episode. . .
And there

My guess is he'll end up on the PCT, then part 3 will be on the CDT. It's the Triple Crown Killer!

I gotta admit, that's funny. If they only caught the guy at the end, I don't think I would be so upset about this. This show's pretty popular. It would be cool to see a fictionl TV show about a thru-hiker based on the real stories of 100s of us. That would give people the right idea.

O.K., one thing I noticed is that they were in long sleeved (cotton) shirts in the mountains of PA in November. . . isn't it too cold for that?

And then they said that the "Unsub" would be hiking at estimated 3 mph - again, I don't think so. . . not hauling a reluctant child, and not in those mountains. And also - not enough rocks!!! Not enough undergrowth either, I suspect.

Yeah, I watched it, and yeah, I thought "Why didn't they consult with just one person who's actually been on the AT in PA?

Actually Reid estimated 3 mph, and then Hotch pointed out he had two kids with him and they reduced it to 2 mph.

I do think it would have been kind of cool if they could have tapped into the "AT thru" culture in a positive way in the show... would have given people an interesting glimpse of something most have never seen. But there's only so much you can cram into a one-hour drama.

That's such a great idea. If they would only do another episode during the peak thru-hiker season and draft the help of hikers for searching. "They can cover so much ground so fast... it's ridiculous" I think the public seeing the scragly bearded helpers would make things better.

It was a brilliant move to throw the Appalachian Trail stamp on the episode considering it really had nothing to do with the trail at all, it was more a camping in the woods episode. . .

Got people interested in the trail and hiking to watch. And now people who have never hiked can lobby for pole lights and call stations all the way from GA to ME
