Any one hike the Tahoe Rim Trail? How difficult is it? a lot of Water sources? Are Permits needed other than in the desolation wilderness? any other info you could give would be awesome. Thanks

Desolation Wilderness is the only place you need a permit. You can self-register at the trailheads for day use permits but must go to the ranger office for overnight/multi-day trips.

There are some tough climbs but nothing to be concerned with. Water is generally good but you'll need to load up between Tahoe Meadows and Spooner Summit. There was only one water source - at the campground... can't think of the name of the campground off the top of my head tho it was near the half way point. This was the only water source on this stretch back in August.

Here's one thread (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61856&highlight=tahoe+rim). There are others. Go to "Other Trails" and do a search with the key words Tahoe Rim. You'll find about 3-4 other threads.
