Hello fellow Hikers,

I need your help! Hopefully it's cool to post this here? (If not please delete my post).

Remember the climber Aron Ralson who's arm was trapped and had to cut his arm off with a pocket knife to free himself after 6 days. I need you help. During my hike on the PCT in 2008 I had a bear experinece the night before we reached Canada, and entered the contest. I submitted a draft and was updating the final my entry when the deadline passed, and my draft entry was submitted with some typos, kind of incomplete and, the picture is all messed up. Despite this I was selected as one of the 126 finalist!

All that aside I'm in 6th place, and am trying stay in the top ten. Read my story, and if you like it click the thumbs up to cast your vote for me.

Thanks for your help and see you on trail,

Hey Flippy, great to hear from you! You got my thumb up, anyway.
I had to get off trail for a week or so in '08 for a foot problem (ended up having foot surgery the next year), so I was just getting close to Stehekin when you had your bear encounter further north. Nice to hear that you were hiking with Antfarm and Swiffer! Did you ever hear Moonpie's bear encounter story in the Sierras?

Maybe Milky and I will see you on the CDT next year; we're going for a SOBO thru, assuming the snowpack makes that reasonable.

Gadget,

How's the foot? I thought I heard your where hiking on the AT? What happend to Moonpie in the High Sierras?

Keep me posted on when you are headed southbound on the CDT. I haven't decided which direction I'm going yet. Like you I'm watching the weather.

Take Care,

Flippy

Thanks for the vote! Good luck on your hike next year. I reached Harper's Ferry (symbolic halfway point) on the 13th of June.

I finished on August 19th.

Second day up on Katahdin was better, so maybe you want some extra time for those unexpected things.

I'd like to think I was in good shape too, so I wouldn't start much south of Harper's Ferry plus you can sign in at the ATC. If you feel like are just going to cruise, maybe start somewhere in the Shenandoah National Park. It's a nice place to get some easy miles in and get used to the trail, but maybe cutting it close.

Have fun on your hike!

I heard Moonpie's story! I remembered I had heard a woman on the trail telling her bear story but couldn't remember her name. Thanks for the reminder!

What is Moonpie's bear experience? I would really like to know.

Too bad you didn't have time to proofread it. sSorry, but I'm giving a thumbs down. The story just wasn't as interesting as others I have read.

"How's the foot? I thought I heard your where hiking on the AT? What happend to Moonpie in the High Sierras?"

Apologies for thread drift, but I had foot surgery after the PCT (Morton's Neuroma), so now a part of the ~ball of my left foot and some parts of the toes are sort of permanently somewhat numb. Not fun, but it allowed me to get back on trail and, indeed, I hiked the AT this year, NOBO, started on the early side to end in late July.

I shouldn't have mentioned Moonpie, it's really her story to share --- or not share (!) in a public venue! I'll pm you with it Flippy.

Sounds like Handlebar is finishing the CDT next year too, continuing his NOBO, and Lil' Budda is doing the CDT NOBO (and knowing him probably more ...). Will be nice to see any familiar (or heck any at all) faces on trail next year.

Gadget...Glad to hear that you where able to get back on the trail and finish your AT hike. Seeing people on the CDT is rare unless you are hiking with them.

Remember Cruzin from the PCT in 2008? He finished his CDT hike, but often talked about leaving the CDT to go jump on the PCT - because he missed the social aspect. Start with the pack. Stay with the pack and you will have company.

BTW Handlebar PM me about my plans for the CDT next year.

Thanks again for all votes again everyone. I'm still in the top ten and the winner will be annouced Dec 10th, so I believe you can still vote.
