Because of the expense and because of the high sodium content I want to try to make my own equivalent of the Mountain House meals. Will someone Please direct me to a source for bags which are appropriate for boiling a meal?

Need to find plastic bags without BPA contamination. Imagine slurping down BPA every day for 6 months.

Someone here on Whiteblaze contacted the Ziplock people. The bags are BPA free.

Enertia Trailfoods also sells bags. Little more expensive but they stand up and can be reused. For some dinners I really like the stand up part cause I can be really clumsy.

wrt standing up - I made a cozy that supports the bag in the upright / open position so I can use both hands for pouring the water (ET sucks)

Freezer bags have never contained BPA. BPA is a hardener - bags are flexible.

And you don't boil the bags - and neither do you need boiling water - just below works fine 99% of the time.

What you are seeking is known as FBC (Freezer Bag Cooking), head on over to the food and cooking section and search it for lots of ideas that have been posted over the years! :)
