View Full Version : Knots Anyone?
Wanted to share a pretty cool knot tying resource.
Anyone interested in knots and knot tying techniques should check out the TyingItAllTogether (http://www.youtube.com/user/TyingItAllTogether#p/u/54/aYcZYP3Z3ck) channel on YouTube.
The link above samples how to make a paracord River Bend bracelet but there are a lot more knots (I like the various key fob knots) demonstrated there.
He also has a website- http://fusionknots.com/ with downloadable knot instructions.

This is a wonderful YouTube site. I just spent about 15 min viewing it. I made it on of my favorites. I have made several bracelets using the Backpacking Mag. directions. I can now make different ones. Thanks for the site

Yes, the Ashley Book of Knots is a classic! It can be frustrating at times.
JD at TyingItAllTogether makes it so darn easy............. almost hypnotic with the music and all.
Cheers!

I learned about it from Annie Proulx in The Shipping News. . . :)

Cool!
Proulx claims to have found the "Ashley Book of Knots" at a yard sale and bought it for a quarter. Furthermore, she blended words found there into The Shipping News such as- ... the word coil is called a quoyle, the protagonist's name, and is used on a ship deck, knotted "so that it may be walked on..." This metaphor sums up Quoyle's relationship with the world around him in the novel's first half. (Source: Wiki)
Amazing huh?
Thanks for sharing warraghiyagey.

the ashley book of knots is way too expensive...like 85 bucks.
A much better and cheaper resource is the handbook of knots by des pawson
http://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Knots-Pawson/dp/1405304677/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1290737288&sr=8-8
The best in MHO is The marrow guide.

Use them together and there aren't many more knots you would ever use outside of them.
I suggest finding a good friend who also teaches basic mountaineering for a local outdoor group, buy a a 12 pack of some local microbrew for him, have him make you practice the knots in his garage until you can do them on command (while he and another friend taunt you/encourage you/drink the beer) then go climbing with him all through the summer.
Worked for me anyway. ;)
