Hi all, I am looking for any GPX trail files you may have. I am working on a site to display and share trails all over the world and need trails to refine the gpx upload process.

You can check out the site and get more information here
http://www.trailblisters.com/

I have the AT, CDT, and PCT there now to play around with.

Thanks!

I don't see the PCT on there.

I'll be happy to do as much as possible to support this effort if there's an easy way to find local trails within a certain area (map will suffice), view information about it and download its track.

Oh wait, the PCT does show up, it just takes a REALLY long time. That's okay for me, but some people may leave the site before seeing that it works. I don't see a way to download the track though, and that is important, especially for finding poorly marked trail heads.

Important IMO is information about the source of those files. For the PCT, I would strongly recommend use of Halfmile's data (http://www.pctmap.net/), as I've seen (and hiked with) him on the PCT, with his GPS constantly on and recording. And in thru-hiking that trail in general anytime I ever looked at his plot data it was just right on.

A GPX file pulled off a site with no background context could be anything, to include someone making a best guess at plotting it from their desktop PC, or it might be old data trails move around over time to some degree); it could be a relatively small number of waypoints joined together by straight lines to make "a track", it could be anything.

To be clear, I know nothing on way or another about these particular GPX files, just pointing out that two different GPX files that are both nominally for the same trail could vary a lot in accuracy/utility.

Very interesting Reboot.

Looks similar to what Backpacker Magazine does under their "destination" (http://www.backpacker.com/destinations/) tab.

Yeah it generates the map tiles as needed if no one has seen it before and I just deleted all the tiles to make some changes so its running slow right now. The server its on doesn't help either.

Information about the trails and the source will be included as will the ability to download and create gpx files to use.

I second Brian's recommendation, especially since I meant to mention it myself.

I know that two files of the same trail will be off a little but the main goal of the site is so people can discover hiking trails around them. I certainly wouldn't expect people to follow their gps data off a cliff but you never know. I'll probably have to place a disclaimer so I don't get sued that someone stubbed their toe following the gps.
