I have spent some time online reviewing homemade peppermint oil and water mice repellent spray. clove oil is sometimes added. I would like to know if anyone has tried this on their hanging food bag in a shelter.

No it doesn't work for mice.
Might work on some mice, probably not all. One of my rats (Mary) absolutely DETESTED dried fruit, would eat fresh, but NOT dried. The others loved it & would eat almost anything (except for dog food  ). SO, for Mary, dried fruit would be a repellent, but would attract the others. Your mix may repel most, but maybe "Mary" would like it.
You pay your money you take your chances. The best Mice repellent I have found is a Rat. Haven't had a mouse in our house for 6 years, the last rat left about 4 weeks ago, now I have field mice in the attic. :(
I miss my Rats, but can't stand the loss every 3 - 5 years.
Good luck with your experiments. :D Keep us posted, K.
