How important to you is a wind shirt? Any thoughts on the golite wind shirt or the marmot driclimb wind shirt?

I own the marmot driclimb and it's hands down my favorite piece of gear for layering.

i had the new montbell windshirt.. it was awesome.
but i sent it back and went to the thrift store and found one for 2$ and only 2oz heavier.

imho- the windshirt is a staple near the top of my pack.

My Marmor Precip jacket does double duty as my wind jacket.

I have the (p)Golite shirt and love it. Packs down to a 3 inch square aroun 3.5 oz. I wear it in almost all conditions when needed. Its great when hiking in a tee shirt and the coolness picks up a tad.

I have the old GoLite Wisp (not available anymore). Absolutely love it. It's a great piece of a layering system.

I use my Integral Designs e-Vent rain parka as a wind barrier when needed, which is rare on the AT south of New Hampshire.

Same...

I also have a driclime but only wear it for casual wear these days.. the Precip is my wind and rain protection in winter/cool weather.

O2 Rainwear jacket is what I use for wind/rain in summer/warm weather.

I have two wind shirts, a Patagonia Houdini single layer, and a Marmot DriClime. Love 'em both.

Yea I think bottom line here is a wind shirt no matter what brand isn't a bad idea!

Ditto. I had one of those fancy Montbell, sub-3 ounce, Pertex windshirts that packs down to a golf ball , but found I never used it, so I sold it. I'm carrying a rain jacket anyway... didn't see a need for a special windshirt.

I know that many hikers do this. I tried it, but found that wearing my rain shell made me sweat too much -- it's a lot more fabric and not breathable (sure, it's *supposed* to be breathable, but yeah right.) My wind shirt is just right for those conditions.

I did this for a while with my Frogg Togg parka. I found it was just too bulky. I was able to get the GoLite Wisp at a super closeout price. I love my Wisp. I'm now an advocate for carrying both.

Just ordered the Marmot Driclime on sale @ Sahalie.com for $54.99 w/ free shipping (catalog code 33410 32006 / offer code 13970). Sierra Trading also has them on sale at $54.95, but not sure about the shipping cost. Got one for the wife last year and she really likes it.

I just got the montbell UL wind parka on sale. I like the hood, it has a brim. full length zipper. But it runs SUPER small. Check out the sizing chart. I am 5'8" and my L is tight.

What are some other super light wind shirts with a hood and full zipper?
