Where do you like to hike?
I live in Boone, and hike regularly. I know Grandfather Mountain very (very) well, and my knowledge of Linville gorge is growing. I know other trails in the area, but in my opinion these two areas are the most challenging nearby. I hope some fellow NC hikers will join me while I train this spring for my thru hike attempt!

Me too :) It would be nice to get on a real hike every once in a while instead of only having places like Raven Rock.
Charlotte here, too. The scope of the hikes you're planning are not clear to me from your original question. Are you planning to do lots of short hikes, covering 600 miles? Or a 600-mile section all at once?

I think the OP is saying that with 600 miles of trails within a few hours drive, there are lots of hiking opportunities in the region. I could be wrong; just ask my wife.
