Postholer is offering a free databook with set of maps...

While a guidebook may offer some good reading it's a really easy trail to follow.

Postholer offers 41 printable maps which is a bit of overkill, the Harrison set is 13 maps and all you really need.

This John Muir Trail Yahoo Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/johnmuirtrail/) offers a wealth of useful information. Also, my wife and I will be using this Atlas (http://johnmuirtrailmap.com/) on our 2011 JMT hike.

Eric the Black is a cool guy and makes a great, but pricey guide.

I haven't sent away for a guide book yet, but if I am planning on hiking this in August or September 2012, so do I need to make reservations now for anything?
