Starting to get things planned for my section this June. I remember reading about a bus service in a thread that was starting a few months back. I need to get from Front Royal back south (Daleville). Anyone remember that service or has used it?

I'm a guessing you're talking about the Shenandoah Valley Connector. The Shenandoah Valley Commuter Connector goes only north from Front Royal to Northern Virginia.

I'd suggest trying this website : www.applachiantrail.org/transportation (http://www.applachiantrail.org/transportation) or possibly renting a cheap ride from someone like Enterprise to Daleville.

If you have greyhound there. you can take Greyhound to daleville instead of roanoke.. They have a stop close to the travel center.....

I had thought i remember something about a service that had just started in 2010. If I can get a greyhound that would be ok too. I am hoping to hike from Daleville to Front Royal this June and need a ride back to my car.

Greyhound Bus Lines discontinued service 5 years ago to the Shen. Valley and I am not certain what , if any other bus company has filled the void. Here are a few options.

Option 1 - car rental

Front Royal has an Enterprise which might be the cheaper way to go.
www.Enterprise.com (http://www.Enterprise.com)

Option 2 - shuttlers

I got a ride from a guy that works at the outfitter in Daleville from Daleville to Rockfish Gap. At the time he was eager to make some $$$ and I'm sure he would have went to Front Royal.

Also, the Kroger parking lot (where the outfitter is) in Daleville is a primo place to leave a vehicle - the parking lot is lit up at night and patrolled frequently by the local sheriff/police.

Excuses there's a park and ride just past the BP gas station for long term parking and thats patrolled also. But try calling the outfitter in Daleville. I believe their website say'S SHUTTLE SERVICE.

All good options. Greyhound also goes to Charlottesville. That is an option from Waynesboro. With 6 months to there is time to work on this. Thanks everyone!

Only in Blacksburg. There is a shuttle that runs between Roanoke, and Blacksburg, but does not go to Daleville. You cannot take the Blacksburg Transit to Pearisburg, or Daleville, or really out of Montgomery County.

Thanks Hikerhead, that was the thread I remembered. It may not work now but it still a great resource for when I get farther north.
