Not an AT topic but hiking related.. been lurking for some time reading all I can and trying to learn about gear, etc.. Being in Texas not too many trails but they are here.. Just wanted to say thanks for a great site and a lot of good information. It has really helped in preparing and executing the few hikes i've gone on already.

Thanks

Jyoung there's lots of trails in Texas and area to backpack. I llived in Austin and backpacked. here http://Trails.com/ Check this out on type in the Area in Texas. You also have BIG BEND. Nothing wrong with getting started there.... Also when you purchase gear One item at a time so you dont feel over whelmed and have to buy everything at once. Also start a thread for Texas hikers/You would be surprised....

Hobbs try not to recommend Trails.com - there is a join fee of $40. Most of the trails there are 5 milers few are more than 20.

This is free.....

Glad you got to hike up Guadalupe Peak. I hiked it in Spring of '06 and enjoyed the climb and the rest of the Park. Happy Hiking!
