Whats the consensus here say is the best trail guide to carry on the AT? Base this on 2010. You know the one with the most recognizable symbols, best town maps with mileages between places in town, most detailed descriptions of places to stay and the services they offer: shuttles, maildrops, rates, addresses to mail to, phone numbers). Things always change but base your replies on the direction things were going last year.

Consensus? Not likely. For the amount of work it takes to compile everything, I enjoy buying multiple trail guides to support their efforts .. but I only carry The A.T. Guide (http://www.theatguide.com/).

I buy this one. Carry a few maps for a section hike and I'm good to go.

Well, considering the Thru Hiker's Handbook is no longer in print, I'd say go with The AT Guide.

Is this a permanent situation or are they just compiliing info for the 2011 guide?
Strange that they wouldn't show the 2011 issue (or at least say when it will be available).

Hello couscous and yes your trailname surrounding the wheat berry is exceptional.
Awols book was the best ("Awol on the AT") and Bill Brysons was the worst. Ive read all of them and if anybody wants me to send them a particular book all they have to do is name it and pay for postage. I assumed Awols 2010 AT guide would be the best. Id say the 2011 copy will be better. Planning maildrops for this year has led me to find mistakes in my 2010 copy. I have ordered the 2011 copy because i still believe its probably the handieest thing out there.

My copy of the 2011 A.T. Guide arrived on Monday so I've been showing it around and highlighting some things.
