View Full Version : Good Snacks?

While training for my through hike, I am realizing I need to snack while hiking to keep my sugar levels up and happy. I know dried fruit is a good snack to have on hand. Any other suggestions?

Classic GORP. Equal parts peanuts, M&M's and raisins. I'm going to try adding Honey Nut Cheerios to my mix. Everyone has their personal favorite mix.

I snack on Zone bars, which keeps my blood sugar quite steady throughout the day.--Kinnickinic

One of my favorites is equal parts chocolate covered raisins. Chopped dates & cran raisins( dried cranberries). Make a large batch & divide into smaller snack size bags.

Ditto the GORP, which is actually a mostly-forgotten acronym for Good Old Raisins and Peanuts.

If for some reason I'm out of either of those ingredients, I'll grab a stack of tortillas to munch on. They pack well and are fatty and salty. Add a few slices of cheese and you have lunch, too.

Probably the grossest habits I have seen thrus do....is hard boiled eggs. I mean TONS of them. They will eat 4-5 eggs in one sitting. Glad I wasn't hiking with them later :p

Peanut M&Ms are great in the afternoon when you need a good calorie boost. The other snack that I really like are Planter's Cajun Snacks which give a nice shot of salt, spice and are very high in calories.

I really enjoy dehydrated kiwi, and banana (:banana) chips as variety to homemade date bars.
