Less than normal snow here in New Brunswick, Canada. We currently have about 4" on the ground. This new storm is just getting under way and is expected to bring less than 4"... I'm beginning to wish I lived much further south so I could enjoy some snow..

Mauna Kea is well over 13,500'. There is snow skiing there in the winter. See: http://www.hawaiiinfoguide.com/hawaii_skiing.htm

One would think that as many people as there in FL, some would figure a way for us to join the rest of the country....

John, if you want to do some snow shoveling come on up to Long Island. We got 12 to 15 inches last night and there's a 30% chance for more tonight and again on the weekend.

Summer is heat, winter is snow [shrug]. Should it be any other way?

That is a cool pic though!

Excerpt from The Scoop on Snow Shoveling Safety (http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/yf/fitness/fn1518.pdf) - 2 page PDF from North Dakota State University. "The bad news is that researchers have reported an increase in the number of fatal heart attacks among snow shovelers after heavy snowfalls." .. so to be safe I use this snow shovel.

I knew I should have bought a snow blower in the fall when I could have gotten a used one at a reasonable price! Couscous, can I borrow your snow shovel?

couscous

Sure, but being 750+ miles away I'm guessing you can find one a bit closer.

If every one here would just mail a box of snow to Florida we could say there is snow in all 50 states...:D

CousCous, you could have made a fortune here in Atlanta. Many of our interstates are still shut down due to lack of clearing - after 4 days!

I'm sure I could be having a lot of fun down there. If we get 6" of snow on my road, nobody really cares.. mainly because most of my neighbors still use horses to get around.

We are buried in Bethel, CT with upwards of 2 ft. of snow. Spent a good part of yesterday with a shovel.

I think the translation of Mauna Kea is "white mountain." My one trip to Hawaii was to the Big Island years ago in mid-summer. Took an organized trip up to the renown observatories almost on top of Mauna Kea. The tour operators passed out heavy parkas and served hot chocolate for the frigid temperatures. Yes, it was cold!

With record snow falls up and down the East coast I can't imagine that water will be in short supply this Spring and early summer.

Tawa - that's what I was thinking, but I don't know how much one year of snow fall changes flow rates on springs.

With the bright sunlight and sub-freezing temperatures, this snow pack is not melting. Look up sublimation (sic). Don't know if it will have much effect on water availability, although I'm probably wrong (per my wife). :)

Sublimation is a pretty slow process, that's what's removing the ice from Mount Kilimanjaro. Most of it will melt away, but not sure if that will help the springs much:confused:

BTW, remember 20 inches of snow is only (depends on type of snow) about 2 inches of rain.

Little dusting of snow or no accumulation at all right now as compared to the December 2009 30+"wholloping and again another 30+ in January that kept us paralyzed until it was finally gone in March. Yes, we are fortunate this year to be able to hike the ridges here in Central Virginia. Still cold but at least bare....For now! Counting our blessings here. If you got a jones to hike, we have the fix. "Welcome to all"

Sledding Party?...I'm There!...Hope that there is lots of hot chocolate!...

Ahhh!...I remember those rare days in Connecticut that school was closed. First, we had to shovel the drive then we were free to go out with the rest of the neighborhood kids to do sledding on the hills. I loved my Flexible Flyer and carried it the 1/4 mile to the nearby slopes. There were of course a but load of others having a go at the fun....Good Times!
