Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2. It's a two man tent but the weight difference verses the 1 man is just not enough to worry about .. Lots of room..

Check out the Lightheart Tent. Light, roomy, setup is a snap. Great features but only what you need. I am a serious fan of this tent.

Re: the Lightheart tent, I think this might help, too. http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=52867&highlight=tinker+lightheart
I'm a big fan of tents that don't need to be set up from the inside out (body first, then fly). It's much easier to keep the inner tent dry during setup.
My solo tent (I use it in winter only) is a Hilleberg Akto. The single pole threads into the fly and the tent hangs from it.
Take a look at the single-walled Tarptent Moment (www.tarptent.com (http://www.tarptent.com)) for a fantastically designed solo three season tent. Single walled tents require that you occasionally wipe off the ceiling to keep dry, but that's rare as long as there's any air flow. A friend of mine (Chatter on Whiteblaze) has one and so far he loves it.

I know everyone likes whatever is the newest and most pricey thing but Kelty does make a good tent or two. I have this one it's pretty lightweight with a simple design and very fast setup. Plus, the rainfly fits pretty taut even when not guyed out. It has good ventilation also and best of all it's way less of a hit to the wallet than other models which are essentially the exact same thing. It's sold as a two person tent but it's really best for one person and gear. Here's a vid on it. That Lightheart looks pretty cool, too. If I used poles I would love something like that.

That's why I asked why he made that decesion. I don't think one person on this thread recommended a Kelty.

And I stand behind that recommendation. Mine is a great tent and I'm sure you'll find it to be so, too. Just because the brand name isn't in season doesn't mean they don't make good stuff for way less than a lot of other major brands.

I have a kelty backpack..had it for years...love it...so I figured why not...and from all the research i've done most thru hikers rarely use thier tents

so you bought it NOT to use it?

It's a good price for the tent, and I doubt he'll have any trouble with it. More money usually means lower weight, better materials and workmanship, but it's a well thought out design, and not everyone can afford to spend better than $200.00 on a tent. My suggestion is to set it up in the back yard on top of a plastic groundsheet (make sure it's a couple of inches smaller than the tent floor on each side, so rain doesn't collect on it and run underneath) and see how it does in some bad weather. If you decide you need something better you can sell it to someone else.

Yeah, mine has been good to me in rain and cold. You'll probably get a decent amount of usage out of it but if you are thru-hiking you may end up abandoning it when it warms up like a lot of others seem to do.

Don't let that fool you tho my jersey friend .... i've had eureka's, coleman, msr, sierra designs ... etc.

My favorite in fact is the lightning 2 from sierra designs ... problem is its abit heavier than i wanna carry for a thru ... but i've used it for 2-3 week trips ... you're basicly doing sections, but back to back for a hike ... the kelty i'd imagine will be the same, being it will get the job done ... I'm just at the stage where i want lighter ... my top 3: Bag/pad/shelter weigh in at 19 oz for the pad, 1.6 ounces for my bag "will be alittle heavier due too the winterish start" and 2 pounds for the tent ... all weighing less than the kelty ... so you can see why some of us don't recommend anything over 3 lbs for a one person solo tent for a thru .... You'll be golden, shame i'm starting 2012 or i'd see ya out there ... Good luck, and remember .. no matter what the gear or label it has on it ... it will do the job, even a cotton shirt in the summer soaked at a stream can be a good thing, just don't hike in it. Getting off subject, back too the playoffs ....
