tarps and tipis are now available. not as light as other ripstop but virtually indestructible.

Nice to see a Wyoming company. Where are you guys based out of?

You spelled thru-hike wrong on your site. Just a friendly tip that might get you farther with this crowd. =)

Actually from the desert pics it looks like southern Wyoming. Rawlins? Rock Springs? Evanston?

thanks, will get on that spelling error. we are in northern Wyoming on the west slope of the Bighorns. we do try to get out to a lot of different spots of the state and there are A lot of spots to choose from as i'm sure you know. we try to do some winter camping an this year we are testing the dyneema tipi on a trip when it is completed. i just installed the stovejack last night.

i am guessing that you are from Sheridan?

Are you guys using full dyneema like on Ursack bear resistant bags and some McHale packs, or dyneema ripstop? Either way, that's killer.

it's the dyneema gridstop like thruhiker sells. the tipi that is being built right now has a full 13 yds. for a 6 ft. peak and 13 ft. diameter. the dyneema itself is waterproof so i am putting in double doors using waterproof zippers. the peak of the tipi will have zipper vents as well since the fabric an zippers are not breathable.

this is not a budget friendly project.

you know the saying... if you have to ask...

full dyneema is so expensive and heavy that it was not an option at all. dyneema gridstop weighs 4 oz. per yd. and i will weigh the tent when it is done.

From your site where did you find camo 1.1 sil nylon rip or is that 1.8?

it is 30 d. and no longer available. i do have a small amount of 30 d. multicam left but it is urethane and not sil.

I love these tipi designs. Great to see more options out there. Best of luck.

they are not for everybody but after many attempts at finding my ideal back country lodging, this is the best that i could come up with. the simplicity of the shape is tolerant of so many different weather situations and the single center pole/ top loop setup is a no brainer. the hiking poles work as a coupled together pole and the woodstove makes cold a minor and temporary inconvenience.

and dyneema really is a good tent fabric in my opinion. very strong and easy to work with.

this gridstop x is waterproof and i installed waterproof ykk zippers on both doors. i figure, if you're gonna build the ultimate shelter, why not use the best materials available. there is over 500.00 of materials alone in this one.

Can you make a 1 man, that a thru hiker might want to use?

people have called me crazy and even stupid for wanting to build the dyneema tent but i think the end result justifies my decision. here is a size comparison with an 8 man outfitters tipi. the brown tent is made from 1000 d. cordura and weighs 18 lbs.
