After traveling to the general area of Springer (it doesnt have to be right at Amicalola) Id like to find an overnight stay at a place that offers a shuttle to the approach trail after breakfast the morning I start my thru. The Hiker Hostel looks good. Any other alternatives out there?

The Lodge at Amacalola is pretty amazing. Good night's stay in a nice room, buffet breakfast, and it's a couple of hundred yards (?) to the trail. You're also at the head of the falls.

i know you asked for "alternatives", but if you haven't stayed there before, you should really experience the Hiker Hostel. of course, you could also stay at mountain crossings.

Go stay at the Len Foote Hike Inn. Springer is only 4.5 miles from there!
They have awesome food!! You get served dinner and breakfast there!

If you aren't driving to Springer I think its impossible to beat the price the HH charges for pickup, lodging, and shuttle.

The Hike Inn is a good choice as long you make a reservation, can arrive at AFSP by the required time, and don't mind spending $100 for the night.

how about the free shelter behind the visitor center and then breakfest at the lodge above the falls

It"ll probably be the HH or Lodge since it may be dark by the time I get there. Thanks.

Sometimes one of Amicalola's fine cabins are available down by the visitor center, at the bottom of the falls. Worked for me.

I use Hiker Hostel which is very clean and they feed you a great breakfast. After breakfast, they will shuttle to the near the top of Springer or to the approach trail in the park. I find HH a great start to my AT journey.

Hiker Hostel: meet other thru-hikers, get a great breakfast with the group, get a ride to the start of the trail.

Lodge at AFSP: great view from your room, great buffet breakfast, other hikers are around but you don't get the same "group" feeling. Walk out the door and start hiking north, no shuttle needed.

Super place and people! You may as well stay in an interesting place, because you (WE) won't sleep!

I really enjoyed my stay with Josh and Leigh Saint at the Hiker Hostel in Dahlonega.

I actually stopped by the Hike Inn today. I did the 11 mile loop that takes you up the hike inn trail and then back down the AT approach trail. I never get tired of that place!

I keep calling the Hiker Hostel but no one answers. I usually call after 6. Do they not answer after a certain time?

Grizzz, try their online reservation - at least they'll have a record of what you need, etc, and it might speed the response.
