Hi Everyone

I was wondering how far north can you travel on the CDT
in January without hitting heavy snow? What would the
temps and conditions be like?

thanks, Tman

Deep snow (sometimes really deep) can be expected starting in northern New Mexico.

Most years you would run into snow in the Gila. You could roadwalk around it, but the Gila is one of the best parts of New Mexico. After that you generally will be running into snow near Grants and probably everything north of there. This seems to be a very low snow year though, so you might not have any problems until north of Grants. Biggest problem could be water. If there's no precipitation, there's no grass, and so the ranchers will sell off their cattle and shut off the wells. I would check with the BLM before I left to see what the situation is like there.
