Last year it was the Land's End Snowpack for 50$. I love mine, but they didn't make it this year for men.

This year it's the Cabela's Superlight 750 (http://www.cabelas.com/product/Home/Mens-Clothing-Sale%7C/pc/105625080/c/107004780/Cabelas-Superlight-750-Down-Jacket-150-Regular/944920.uts?destination=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId% 3D107004780%26WTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat105591780%253 Bcat107525880) down jacket for 65$. All sizes are available.

I have no firsthand experience with it, but I was able to find some info on it at this link:
http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/thread_display.html?forum_thread_id=37788

Apparently average of 21.6 oz. for the medium, with average of 6.5 oz. of down.

EMS also has a sale with their house brand Glacier Down jacket. 1 lb 3 oz =(19 oz) $59.95. I'm not familiar with it but it's likely similar to the Cabelas. http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3933253

I looked at this jacket in the store. My impression was that it would be a good deal at half the regular price. The fabric is a bit heavier than the Land's End jacket. This means that the Cabelas jacket does not breath as well and packs a bit larger than the Snowpack. It would be better as a stand alone and more windproof-possibly more water resistant with some spray product added on. So there are advantages to this jacket if you do not have one from another company. It seemed well made and the ones on the rack were not shedding and tiny feathers.

Has anyone tried Cabela's synthetic down jackets ($26.99) or vests ($21.99)?

I bought my wife the Lands End jacket last year and it weighs 10 oz for hers in a small. I am overall impressed with it. Seems to be sewn well and while it does not leak tons of down I have seen them come out. It is filled with 700 fp down I believe.

My new Montbell UL Down Inner came in today, and all I got to say is wow! 7.6 oz (without stuff sack) in mens XL. I just dropped about 10 oz off of my insulation layer! Anyway, I would say the Lands End is basically the same as my jacket. Hers is just a little heavier becuase the materials are probably a little heavier. I do not know how many oz of fill are used in hers either.

Of course I figure these Cabella jackets using 6.5 - 7 oz of down will be much warmer than these...

Don't get caught up in the weight thing. That Montbell at 7.6 ounces is light for sure but really how much down is in that, 4-5 oz if that. I have a LL Bean w/ 850 fill batts stuffed to the gills and it weighs 16oz in a XL. Which one do you think is warmer....I have seen the montbells and they are sparse on the fill. While it will keeping you warm it just won't be as warm as other jackets with the same down fill but more down.

Actually, it is only 2 oz of 800 df in the MB. But that is why I bought it. I didn't want something with that much down in it. I don't rely solely on the this jacket for my insulation though. It is all about the layering... :) However, just wearing it around today, I am very impressed with the amount of heat it produces, or rather holds on to....

this came through yesterday. At $39.93 it's cheapest I've seen. BUT it says down and feathers (80/20 or so). which I've been led to believe is bad.

for what it's worth
