I am really looking for some source for chunk TVP. Does anyone have a retailer / brand name to recommend?

You can find it in bulk bins at food co-ops. That's where I get mine. You can probably also find it in natural food stores like Earth Fare or Whole Foods.

If you want flavored stick with Harmony House. It is well made. Unflavored as found in stores can be lacking.

Also, because TVP is made from soy, one should limit the amount they ingest. Basically the body doesn't digest soy very well. May be an issue there for you out on the trail. An alturnitive would be Tempeh (fermented soy) because it is digested quite well by the body. However you would need a food dehydrator to dry up a bunch.

TVP is pretty notorious for causing stomach issues - which is why I rarely use more than 2 Tbsp per person in a recipe. To say the least you won't be constipated eating it!
