We are going to do a 3 day hike starting at Springer. We should be able to around 10 miles per day. I am looking for Sugestions for a safe place to park our vehicle to come off the mountain to.
The Byron Reece parking area, on U.S. 19, is 30.4 miles from Springer, 29.7 miles on the AT to Flatrock Gap and .7 miles on a blue-blaze trail to the parking area if my memory is right. The Walasi-Yi Center, right at Neels Gap, 30.7 miles from Springer, does not allow overnight parking unless you are staying at the hostel there. I've parked at Byron Reece overnight without trouble. A problem with Byron Reece is that if you drive your car there on a weekend at popular times of the year that lot can be full and if you park in an unofficial spot there you will be ticketed.
