View Full Version : Directions from Gainesville Amtrak to FS-42
I have an old college friend willing to give me a ride from the Gainesville Amtrak station to Springer vis FS-42 (skipping approach trail-time constraints).
What is the best route there from the Gainesville Amtrak station. I will be arriving late March
Thanks,

I was born in Gainesville and have lived near the end of the AT all my life. If you want to PM me I will give you my phone number. If you get lost, I can come and guide you to the Trail head. In the directions it tells you to look for Grizzle's store. Just remember that this store has been closed for at least 20 years and is not what a person generally thinks of when one thinks of a store. It is a white cinder block building at the edge of the road and the sign is damaged. Another landmark to look for is a sign for Nimblewill Baptist Church. It is still in business and the sign is legible.

If you look at that page you'll see "Directions" and "Alternate Directions". I would strongly suggest that use use the "Alternate Directions" using fs42. fs42 is almost always a much better fs road than fs28. I'm suprised that the GATC has fs 28 as the preferable approach.

Yeah, I couldn't finish it in time. It *IS* in the southbound book, along with three more maps that will be in the 2012 NOBO book.

My family used to have a farm and orchard on Castleberry Bridge road. I think they raise Alpacas there now. I miss the area...especially old Auraria..that was a cool little crossroads back in the day.

10K = 6.2 miles, I am guessing that you are not a runner.
