I'll be in Montenegro in September and would like to include some hiking in Durmitor. I've been doing some research through Lonely Planet but thought I would check in with my fellow Whiteblazers as well.....does anyone have any info to share?
I just got back from this trip and Durmitor National Park and the Tara Canyon were magnificent. The trails in Durmitor were not well marked and I spent a good time creating my own markings so that I could figure my way back out. The map didn't help either. I didn't see a single person on many trails. This is not a well traveled area but one worth it if possible. The Tara Canyon is the second deepest canyon in the world, after the Grand Canyon. Didn't see many people there either. Water levels were too low for rafting since they hadn't seen rain in over 4 months. We are so lucky to have well-marked trails here on the AT and other trails thanks to the volunteers, etc. who make it possible.
