Does anyone know if you can do a maildrop or food cache at Smokemont campground? I am doing a section hike with my brother in law in July through the Smokies. that is our one sticking point at this moment. I would like to NOT have to go into town to get food if possible.

Not that I know of. But you could make it all the through the Smokies without resupplying if you're in decent shape. After all, it wasn't that long ago that most thru-hikers went from Fontana to Hot Springs without resupplying. Just pack extra light on the food, with perhaps a few more freeze-dried items that you would normally take.

I went from Hazel Creek to Standing Bear hostel with no need to resupply last year. Going from 20 mile on won't be that much further (though, the Shuckstack is always a pain with a fully loaded pack.)

No way I know of to do a drop there. You could do one to Cherokee.

It is possible to do the Smokies without re-supply depending on how many miles you are willing to do daily and how much weight you want to start with.
