So I started to look into hammocks. I have found 2 sites and just registered at hammockforums. Im shorter than 6 feet and weigh 220 or 230, yeah I know I have a weight problem. Looking for insight on hammocks and which is best, lightest and just plain knowledge. I looked around a bit but everything seemed so spaced out.

I have had a Claytor hammock for years. Every once in a while I think about getting a different one, and then come to my senses. When it wears out, i will get another. Most of the issues people have with hammocks... difficulty with pads, hard to use sleeping bags, etc... are NOT a problem with the Claytor.

HH, WBBB, Claytor are all great hammocks. For better insight, take a look at www.hammockforums.net it's an off-shoot of this site to better expound on the world of hammock camping. Check out Shug and Professor Hammocks videos. Wealth of info there.

i started with a cheap grand trunk from a sporting goods store and it served a purpose for a while but now that i am getting read for a through hike on the a.t. i got the clark nx 250 it is made to hold bigger people and those whose do not like really enclosed spaces. it is amaizing you should check out there web page, but fair warning they are a little more pricey but as others have said they are the caddy of hammocks.

If you are just getting into it and don't know for sure, try a trek light double. It's the one I use and I love it.

It's great for about 75-80% that try it. But you're right, it's not for everybody. Just like hammocking isn't for everybody.

I like my ENO Doublenest in winter. In warmer weather, I'm all about the Blackbird.

I love my Blackbird when it's warm outside and the weather is right for bugs, especially mosquitoes. I recently aquired a Warbonnet Traveler and will be using is during the cooler months. It's definitely going with me on my March section hike. :D
