Hi yall! I'm new here. There is so much great information on the internet now as compared to 15 years ago when I first started hiking!

I enjoy reading other people's gear lists and the discussions that follow, I hope you do too!

I'm cutting weight down to sub 30 lbs and I'm replacing most of my old and worn out heavy gear. I'm also ditching the tent for hammock camping.

Here is what I have come up with so far and it tallys at approx 28 pounds. What do you fine folks think?

Am I forgetting anything? I'd especially like to hear from people who already own these pieces of gear or alternative pieces that I may not be aware of.

I've used the manufacture listed weight for these items and guessed on some things. I haven't bought anything yet. The weights here are listed in ounces.

This is a good list, but if you want to be lighter, I'd ditch the following items:

no water filter - use aqua mira or dropper of bleach

MSR Hydration Bag - you already have two water bottles (good for liquor though)

Bottle adaptors

take instant coffee and loose the filter - starbucks or trader joes (really good)

you only need one pair of extra socks - for real

leatherman is too heavy - just get a tiny pocketknife
- you really won't use the pliers to fix anything

your first aid kit might be a bit heavy - all I carry is tape for working on my feet,
"Vitamin I", latex gloves, sunscreen / bug combo I mix up, and coaches tape

you don't need the compass or the thermometer - you can tell if it's warm or cold and following the white blazes does not require a compass

other than that, my personal preference is to sleep in a tent / tarp nice and flat vs the hammock, but you're on the right track.

have a blast

oh - not sure you need the canister stand but you might want some MSR hot pot tongs - I think they are about 2 oz.

Good list. I would bring 32oz Gatorade bottles instead of the Nalgenes.

He has the CS. Its actually pretty small and light.

good advice!

I'll try that instant coffee and see if I like it. If I don't, I don't mind carrying extra weight for my cup of joe.

Do I need to wait 4 hours after applying the aqua mira?

I think I will take you advice on the bottles, especially if I lose the filter for aqua mira. I like that knife! The scissors might come in handy and the tweezers should help with removing ticks?
