Headed down on Wed Feb 16th to walk Iron Mtn Gap to 19E.
Wondering / hoping there is still some snow sticking around.
Did anyone go out to that area this weekend?
Thanks.

I camped at roan high knob friday night in my hammock with a group of other hammock campers.

winds veryyyyyyyy high!
about 2 degrees was the low

The road to carvers gap has a little ice here and there but easy to drive.
The AT across janes bald and that area was partially snow covered but beatiful and not hard to hike.

Roan mountain had about 4 inches at the bottom and about 2 to 3 feet packed snow up top which made staking my tarp a challenge. If you fall of the pack area you sink to your thigh but mostly it was packed down well. You don't need snow shoes but i thought yaktrax were useful.

All the balds and ridges were extremely windy. I saw at least 3 couples cross country skiining and a few snow shoes if that helps.

went up to Beauty Spot on the day before valintines day, there was about 2in of snow in the gaps and on the lee, but nothing on top. I suspect the balds are the same way.
