Planning on the PCT this late summer, i live east coast and will fly west. What can I pack. What cant I, and will have to buy upon arrival? How should I pack?

Leave the explosives at home. Most everything else with the exception of fuel is O.K. in checked baggage.

Liquid fuel stoves, even empty, are iffy.

You can take everything in checked baggage (even bug repellent, tent and hiking poles, my pocket rocket, lighter, etc) but no fuel cans. We had no problem flying back and forth to Utah

I had an eagle eyed inspector catch my Coleman 442 once. I thought she was gonna have a stoke. Anyway, dumpted the fuel and still a no go. Finally waited for the shift change and the next TSA slug missed the stove altogether.
She said if it even smelled like gasoline it couldn't go. Hell, I'm suprised she was gonna let me go.
Check with the particular airline you're going with. Their websites usually list specifics on what can be checked, what has to be checked, etc.
