Why are you being denied? Is your fax just not getting through? Or are you saying you have not yet received it? If it's just that you haven't received it, patience, grasshopper. They have a big pile on their desk and are working on them.

Are you trying to get a permit to hike the PCT from the pcta.org web site? Or are you trying to get some other kind of permit. I have never heard of the pcta not issuing a permit because of lack of space. You should call the pcta. http://pcta.org/contact_us/

Could be he's doing a section in the Sierras. If so, the PCT permit won't work, it is for those hiking 500 miles or more. If you can't get a Sierra permit, then try other trailheads or doing the hike in reverse.

Also check the JMT part of the forum too for permit ??. There is John Muir Trail Yahoo group too that is very informative on permit issues.

More Info needed to understand your problem. If it isn't a thru-hike of the entire trail, explain what section you are doing (where are you starting and finishing).

Thank you for your reservation request. We are sorry to inform you that your permit request has been rejected for all choices listed. Either your requested trailhead is full or we do not have space for a group of your size. Even though the Full Trailhead Report may not list your requested trailhead and entry date as being full your request may be rejected due to insufficient space. For example, if you requested a reservation for two or more people and there is only space for one, you will be rejected. Furthermore, if additional choices were more than 24 weeks (168 days) in advance your request would also be rejected.
You may wish to apply again for different dates and/or trailheads. For a listing of which trailheads and dates are full, please visit our website at http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wildpermits.htm and click on the 'check availability' link (Please note there are multiple pages of the report). Again, though the trailhead and date may not be listed as full, there may not be sufficient space for your group. For example, there may only be space for 1 person for the trailhead and date you are requesting. In addition, some trailhead quotas may not accommodate a group of your size. To see a list of trailhead quotas please visit: www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/trailheads.htm (http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/trailheads.htm)
Although your reservation request was rejected you can still try to obtain a wilderness permit in person at one of our permit issuing stations. We set aside 40% of every trailhead quota on a first-come first-serve basis. These permits first become available the day before your departure date. If the quota does not fill a day in advance, it will still be available the day of your wilderness trip. Many of our trails are in high demand and lines for permits often form before we open. For competitive trails, it is best to pick up permits at the permit station closest to that trailhead.

Head on over to the JMT forum here on WB - very helpful with trailhead info. You also need to join the Yahoo group - they have loads of info on permits

Since you are showing links to Yosemite, I'll assume a SOBO JMT trip. Yosemite holds back permits for walkins and gives them out starting the day before your hike. Show up predawn the day BEFORE you want to hike and you'll likelly get one; if not, try the next day. If you show up on a weekday, your chances go up. Consider starting at Tuolumne Meadows rather then Yosemite Valley or Glacier Point to increase the trailhead options and improve your walkin chances. You can day hike most or all that you'd miss as you wait around for the next day to start your trip. There is shuttle service between Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows.
