I started in early March using Capilene 3 and switched to Capilene 2 when things warmed up (bottoms only).

What is your start date?

For hiking, I like the lightest possible base weight. My personal preference is merino wool, but Capilene 1 or 2 is good. For me, Cap 3 is too heavy for hiking. Makes a good dry base layer for camping in cold weather.

My start date is March 1. I have some cap 4 to wear at camp as well as some marmot heavyweight baselayer pants. I am looking to find a top and bottom layer to hike in. I work outside year round so I can deal with cold conditions but would still like to have a plan for staying warm while shedding layers and sweating. Thanks for the replies

I started March 1st last year and had no problems with cap 1's on the trail and cap 3's in camp. Had to layer on the rain pants when the snow got deeper than my gaiters, but I wouldn't do it any differently now.

Capilene 1 short sleeve with a Capilene 3 over it if it is cold.
