Hello everyone,
I'm going to hike GA-ME this year and since I'm from overseas I need to buy fuel cartridges for my Snow Peak GigaPower stove on site.
Is there any equipment store near the starting point of the AT at springer mountain? Or, alternatively, can you recommend a place in Atlanta where one can stock up? The ones I found on google maps are several miles outside the city, and absent a rental car I'm not exactly looking forward to hike along the highways ;-)
thanks in advance for your input,
MammotH.

There are a couple of REI's in Atlanta (http://www.rei.com/map/store#GA).
Mountain Crossings (http://www.mountaincrossings.com/) at Neels Gap is an outfitter on the trail, 30 hiking miles N of Springer.
If you are staying at the Hiker Hostel (http://hikerhostel.com/index.php), I'm sure they will help you out.
Many hikers use denatured alcohol stoves because it is easier to obtain denatured alcohol on the trail.
Good Luck and Have Fun!
See you on the trail,

Unless you've already made other arrangements to get from Atlanta to Springer, I'll second mountain squid's advice to hook up with the Hiker Hostel. They will get you from the airport to the hostel, and can arrange a stop at REI or some other store along the way, will put you up overnight, feed you a good breakfast in the morning, and drop you at the start of your hike.

the hiker hostel sounds nice. this is off topic a bit but i have to say its always nice to have someone from over seas and take in our natural beauty. normally its for something stupid like disney land lol.

Most shuttle drivers keep fuel on hand, or will know where to stop and get it.

thanks everybody for the great advice, it all fits together perfectly: there's a REI more or less in walking distance from the standard pickup point of the hostel shuttle in ATL :)
@Star Walker: Hell will freeze over twice before you'll find me anywhere near Disney land ^^

There's a Wal-Mart in Dahlonega that should have the canisters.
