I'm organizing a 2012 thru hike to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting in the US. The idea is that I'll hike the whole thing and current and former scouts come out to hike sections with me. The goal is to be as near as we can get to a relay.

Because of this plan, I need to have a schedule that is robust and dependable.

I know hiking, but I don't know the AT, so I was hoping to enlist the collective genius of WhiteBlaze to help me come up with a schedule to meet my needs. I have a draft now. Would anyone be willing to look it over and give me their two cents?

Post your itinerary and you will find plenty of folks willing to give you advice. Some have years of experience and have hiked the Trail multiple times. Others may not have any more experience than you do, so take that into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

To get an idea how much time the "average" person takes to hike specific sections of the Trail, see MapMan's article, here (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12885). You can compare your schedule against this data, to gauge if it's consistent with hikers' actual performance.

Good luck.

Yeah! It's still me. I just wanted to cast the net a bit wider. I don't want to post the whole itinerary, because it's gigantic, but I can send it to anyone who's willing to take a peek.

Oh, and I used MapMan's average elevation gain data to help with the generation of the schedule. Do those 100 foot sections really feel 3x as hard as the 300 foot sections?
